DESCRIZIONE DEL PROGETTO DI COLLABORAZIONE (ENG only)

Small and medium-size agri-food enterprises and local management activities produces a remarkable quantity of organic waste that often actually are not reuse and thus transported to the landfill, thus increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in atmosphere. This research project, as a part of collaboration with DI4A Department of the University of Udine, employs the organic waste matter to produce energy by an anaerobic process using innovative applications. The biomasses emploied in the caracterization and treatment by anaerobic processes, will be taken from WWTP and several local farms, with particular interest in small and medium-sized enterprises in the wine sector, and by local management authorities, such as the biomass of marine seagrasses beached along the coasts of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The first part of the study will focus on the characterization of considered biomass and on the analysis of methane yields through the application of BMP tests. The second part of the research will apply the obtained results in pilot plants present on the land in order to compare the results with the obtained data in the laboratory and highlight advantages and disadvantages. In addition, a basic economic analysis will be performed to assess the territorial applicability of the research. The obtained data from this study will make it possible to bring positive effects in several sectors, such as economic, social and environmental, favouring greater sustainability of local activities in Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
